Excerpts

Once on a time there were two brothers; one was called True, and he other Untrue. True was always upright and good towards all, but Untrue was bad and full of lies, so that no one could believe what he said.
Page 89, added by Katharine Hadow.

Note that you have to go to page 89 for the first story. Everything before that is introduction.

Once on a time, there was a poor couple who lived in a tumble-down hut, in which there was nothing but black want, so that they hadn't a morsel to eat, nor a stick to burn. But though they had next to nothing of other things, they had God's blessing in the way of children, and every year they had another babe.
Page 180, added by Katharine Hadow.

A sample of unusual tales, and interesting turns of phrase.
