An edition of Beyond the border (2003)

Beyond the border

más allá de la frontera.

Companion website to the documentary television program of the same name which presents the story of the Ayalas, four Mexican brothers who emigrate from Michoacan, Mexico to the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky in search of a better life. The story traces their struggle to overcome cultural, class, and language barriers in Kentucky and presents other important issues of the immigration experience, including family and community issues. Policing of the U.S.-Mexico border is discussed as well as the effects of economic and racial discrimination on Mexican immigrants. The Resources section presents websites, books, and articles for further research on this topic.
