Second issue, with 'Advertisement' dated June 9, 1807, and cancelled t.p. and dedication leaf resulting from Smith's quarrel with John Hawkins, who provided most of the text.
Plates, mostly etchings and aquatints, some with hand-colouring, dated between 1804 and 1807 are printed by John Dixon. Wood engravings in the text by William and John Berryman.
One of the 300 copies which includes two versions of the plate 'Inside of the Painted Chamber' (facing p. 50), one a copper engraving, and the other a lithograph which is unsigned and without title or imprint. This plate is generally considered to be the first lithograph to be used as an illustration in an English book.
Includes list of subscribers (p. 273-276).
