Caption title.

The Lachine Canal was opened in 1824 and enlarged between 1843 and 1848. One of the decorative typefaces used in this broadside was not introduced until 1843 (Cf. Nicolete Gray, Nineteenth century ornamented typefaces, 1976, fig, 109), so the specifications probably refer to projected improvements rather than the original structure.
