"This is the thirtieth book in fifteen years from the Scripps College Press. ... The specific focus of this book is unpredictability or surprise. ... The ... varied page configurations serve to reveal the structure of each story. [signature] Kitty Maryatt"--Abstract p. [4-5].

"This is an experiment conducted by six typography students at the Scripps College Press under the guidance of Professor Kitty Maryatt. ... [Set] by hand and [printed] by letterpress. The substrate is Rives BFK and Rives Heavyweight. The typeface for the abstract is 14 pt. Scripps College Old Style. Images were created with linoleum blocks, pochoir, and photopolymer plates. The results are housed in an acrylic box. This is copy [...] in an edition of 70 copies."--Abstract colophon.
