Written about 1121 for Adeliza, queen of Henry I, of England, by a monk calling himself Benedeiz (Benoît) (cf. p.1, and G. Paris, "Lit. franç. au moyen âge", 1914, p. 236) According to Plummer, based on the Latin prose version found in Bodleian ms. e Musaeo 3. (cf. Plummer, "Vitae sanctorum Hiberniae", 1910, v. 1, p. xlii; also his "Berthada náem nÉrenn", 1922, v. 1, p. xxii) According to E. Pfitzner, "Das anglonormannische gedicht von Brendan", 1910, the Latin is based on the poem.
