The A. M. Crary memoirs and memoranda

Peter Crary was the first Crary to arrive in the United States from Scotland. A.M. Crary is Albert Merrill Crary, a soldier in the US Civil War and he wrote this family history after the war. Early Crary settlers were in Connecticut, New York and Vermont, primarily, and the family seemed to go back and forth around the Conn. River. Peter Crary married Christobel Gallup, son of John Gallup, early pilgrim, indian translator and eventually died in the Great Swamp Fight against the indian tribe. He was burried in common grave with others who died in the battle in Rhode Island. Peter and Christobel were married in the home of Winthrop. This book has been used as reference for Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for Crary line back to Nathan Crary and his father Ezra. Nathan served in the military 3 times and Ezra was in the Connecticut General Assembly during the war of the revolution. He voted to send troops and money to fight in the revolution. Both are DAR ancestors. This book was written before telephones and email and A.M. lost track of many in his family because they were so spread out. (The person writing this description) is a descendant of A.M.'s brother, whom he appeared to have lost after the Civil War. Such was the case in a mobile society with open land everywhere and the fever to move seemed to be great among the Crarys.
