Illustrations include portrait etchings of 35 artists on transparent paper by S.J. and Gerome Ferris. Plates are reproductive prints of the items in the sale. Most plates are zinc etchings (that is, a type of relief etching) made according to the Meisenbach method, printed on transparent paper mounted on leaves. Twenty-four plates are intaglio etchings by S.J. Ferris, Gerome Ferris, and others.

"This collection of paintings will be placed on public exhibition at the American Art Galleries ... January thirty-first ... until, and including, the date of the sale, which will be Tuesday evening, February twelfth, 1889, and take place at Chickering Hall ....
