500 $aContains German translations of three of Erwin Panofsky's writings concerning Galileo's theories on the arts. These are: Galileo as a critic of the arts (The Hague : Nijhoff, 1954); Galileo as a critic of the arts : aesthetic attitude and scientific thought (Isis, v. 47, pt. 1 (March 1956), p. 3-15); and More on Galileo and the arts (Isis, v. 47, pt. 2 (June 1956), p. 182-185). The second of these is a "much abridged and somewhat revised version" of the first. The third appears in the Notes & Correspondence section of the journal Isis, and in it Erwin Panofsky addresses criticisms of Galileo as a critic of the arts (1954), which appear in Edward Rosen's review of the work, which also happens to appear in the journal Isis (in v. 47, pt. 1 (March 1956), p. 78-80). Also included in this volume is an essay by Horst Bredekamp on the prehistory and aftereffects of Panofsky's Galileo text.
