Edition Notes

An adaptation by Thomas Betterton of Fletcher and Massinger's The prophetess. Betterton's adaptation was originally produced in 1690 with music by Henry Purcell. Cf. NUC pre-56, v. 175, p. 220.

Fletcher and Massinger's original play first appeared in the 1647 folio of Beaumont and Fletcher. Cf. DNB, v. 13, p. 13-14.
