Mariano Gabriele

Mariano Gabriele (Roma, 27 dicembre 1927) è uno storico e accademico italiano. Laureato in storia moderna. Autore di volumi, saggi e articoli di carattere storico-militare, e in particolare di storia e politica navale. Direttore Generale presso il Ministero del Bilancio e della Programmazione Economica dal 1967 al 1995, libero docente di storia del Risorgimento e poi professore titolare, ha insegnato storia e politica navale presso l’Istituto Universitario Navale di Napoli (1960-1969) e storia e politica navale e storia contemporanea presso l’Università La Sapienza di Roma (1960-1985), nonché storia moderna presso l'università Gabriele D'Annunzio di Chieti (1968-70). Consulente per la storia dello Stato Maggiore della Marina e della Commissione Italiana di Storia Militare, collabora con gli Uffici Storici dell’Esercito e della Marina. È stato vicepresidente, dal 2008 presidente e dal 2010 presidente onorario della Società Italiana di Storia Militare.

Premi scientifici: • della Cultura della presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri, Roma 1959 e 1971; • per le Scienze Storiche dell’Accademia Pontaniana, Napoli 1960; • del Centenario per monografie storiche, Palermo 1961. Premi giornalistici (Cortina 1951, Barga 1952). • Grande Ufficiale dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica Italiana (1976) • Medalha do Pacificador dell’Ordine militare del duca di Caxia (1985); Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (2013)
